St Lucia celebrations in Sweden

It being 13 December, Sweden celebrates St Lucia. In schools and at workplaces around the country, people are getting dressed up in white gowns, lights and singing songs. A longer description of the traditions can be found at Wikipedia on Saint Lucy’s Day.

There will be a televised version of a chosen Lucia celebration, but if you cannot access Sveriges Television, there is at least one typical St Lucia celebration on youtube.

Also, if you want to sing along, you may wish to know the lyrics for the intro song about Saint Lucia, so here are some St Lucia lyrics (in Swedish and Finnish.

And to top it all off, you may wish to eat some typical saffron buns so here is a recipe for St Lucia Buns (lussebullar).

Happy St Lucia celebrations!
