Underpopulation is not the problem


Nancy Folbre, economics professor at the University of Massachusetts, criticizes the notion that the US population is faring ill because of a demographic change with an ever-growing number of elderly and not nearly as many young people to support them.
My personal analysis: The whole underpopulation argument seems to stand on the idea that for every new generation, there has to be more young people to support the elderly. This, however, would yield a never-ending population growth, till kingdom come. And that, if anything, is a scary scenario…
