Why mathematics is beautiful

James Gallagher of the BBC reports on research showing that mathematicians may regard mathematical formulae as beautiful in much the same way as many other people regard music and pieces of art as beautiful. Dagens Nyheter cites the BBC report.

Treatment for peanut allergy

With allergies becoming increasingly prevalent, here is some good news: the BBC reports of a study in the Lancet that suggests peanut allergy can be cured.

85 children were given peanut protein do eat daily, initially in small doses. The study suggests that 84% of allergic children could eat the equivalent of five peanuts a day after six months.

Although experts have warned that the therapy is not yet ready for widespread use, this study may still give hope for a fully tested cure at some Point in the future. Given that peanuts are the most common cause of fatal allergic reactions to food, the study certainly interesting even though research is still in its early stages.
